Mary Ruth Johnson

Mary Ruth Johnson, 81, of New Florence, MO, died on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the St. Andrews New Florence Care Center in New Florence, MO.

Mary Ruth Zweifel Johnson was born on May 14, 1937 to Virgil and Mary Kelsick Zweifel.

She graduated from New Florence High School in 1955, the last class to graduate from New Florence, MO.  Mary then attended Cosmetology School in Maplewood, MO. 

She married Wesley Dale “Frosty” Johnson on July 25, 1956 in Hermann, MO.  He preceded her in death on January 28, 2006. She retired from New Florence Care Center after working 18 years as their beautician. Mary was a member of the Eastern Star, enjoyed working with her flowers, and loved decorating her home for all of the holidays.  She loved to be with all her family and her many friends.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by three children: Randy Johnson of St. Charles, MO; Lisa Goodman and husband, Steve, of New Florence, MO; and Lori Hesterberg and Melvin, of Bellflower, MO; five grandchildren:  Michelle Purdy and husband, Justin, of Columbia, MO; Tammie Nordhus and husband, Kyle, of Lenexa, KS; Michael Hesterberg and Dale Johnson of New Florence, MO and Dustin Johnson of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren: Kevin, Carson and Keira Purdy of Columbia, MO; and Jaxson and Olivia Nordhus of Lenexa, KS.  Also surviving is her brother, Brian Zweifel and wife, Carol, of Linn, MO; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Mary Kelsick Zweifel; her husband, Wesley Dale “Frosty” Johnson; and her brother, John Zweifel.

Private funeral services were held on Wednesday at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, MO.  Reverend David Knight officiated and interment was in the New Florence Cemetery in New Florence, MO. Casketbearers included Brian Zweifel, Michael Hesterberg, Dale Johnson, Dustin Johnson, Justin Purdy, and Steve Goodman. Honorary Casketbearers were Kevin Purdy and Carson Purdy.
