The Montgomery County Wildcats enjoyed a strong fall season in Eastern Missouri Conference play, winning championships in two sports and finishing with winning records in two other sports.
The Wildcats also had a large number of athletes who earned all-conference honors. A total of 23 MCHS athletes received all-league notice.
Ten of those athletes were in football. They were seniors Ty Leu (first team wide receiver), Evan Abercrombie (first team offensive lineman and first team place kicker), Logan Hutcheson (second team running back), Keenan James (first team defensive back), Thomas Klekamp (first team linebacker) and Blake LaBrier (second team defense), and juniors Matt Clark (first team defensive end), Adam Czerniewski (first team punter and second team quarterback), Travis Hill (second team defensive back) and Gunner Sexton (second team offensive lineman).
Hutcheson, Abercrombie, Leu and James were named on the all-conference team for the second year in a row, while Klekamp, LaBrier, Clark, Czerniewski, Hill and Sexton picked up their first all-EMO football awards.
The football team finished 4-3 in conference play. The Wildcats clinched a winning season in league play after beating North Callaway 32-16 in the regular season finale for both teams on Oct. 22. They also had conference wins over Louisiana, Wright City and Van-Far.
Senior Dawson McCown, juniors Lyric Ford and Destiny Shaw, sophomore Malia Rodgers and Olivia Shaw and freshman Jadrian Thurman represented the Wildcats on the all-conference cross country team. Selections were based on finishes at the EMO championship on Oct. 16 in Bowling Green. The top 15 finishers earn all-league honors.
Rodgers and McCown earned first-team honors after getting victories in the girls and boys meets, respectively. Ford and Destiny Shaw received first-team notice after finishing second and seventh, respectively, in the girls meet.
Thurman picked up a first-team award in the boys division after finishing sixth. Olivia Shaw earned second-team honors after coming in 14th in the girls meet.
The MCHS girls captured their first EMO cross country championship in program history by winning the conference meet with 38 points.
The Wildcats had four selections on the all-conference team, and all of them were named on the first team. They were seniors Brooklynn Fischer (pitcher) and Sam Queathem (catcher) and sophomores Maddy Queathem (infielder) and El Reagan (utility) – were named on the first team. Fischer and Sam Queathem were named on the all-league team for the fourth time, Maddy Queathem picked up her second all-EMO award and Reagan received all-conference notice for the first time.
The Wildcats finished 6-4 in conference play after losing their first two games. They beat Wellsville-Middletown, Louisiana, North Callaway, Van-Far, Clopton and Wright City.
Seniors Sarah Cluver and Makayla Beaver and junior Bailey Fischer represented the Wildcats on the all-conference volleyball team. Cluver and Fischer were named on the first team, while Beaver earned second-team honors. Cluver won her second straight all-EMO award.
The Wildcats won a conference title in volleyball for the fourth straight year. MCHS finished 8-0 in league play and extended its EMO winning streak to 35 games.
