November is a busy time for families. There are football games, cookouts, bonfires, camping trips, parent-teacher conferences and holiday feasts to name just a few. Do you ever feel that you need some downtime with your family? A break from the rush? Maybe a break from technology?

A new subdivision is almost completed on the southeast section of Jonesburg as there are nine homes and a six-unit townhouse already built.

Jonesburg Elementary School has an award this school year – All-Star Students of the Week. Two students will be selected for the award each week.

Wood Hat Spirits had plenty of reasons to celebrate on Oct. 30. The New Florence whiskey distillery earned top honors at the 2025 Heartland Whiskey Competition, winning the Best Farmer-Distilled Bourbon award nationally and the Best In State award for Missouri. Wellsville-Middletown Elementary School celebrated several students in October who showed the traits on the Portrait of a Graduate wheel. Teachers recognize students for being good collaborators and communicators and for showing grit and resilience.

Students across Missouri are discovering how their lives are intertwined with agriculture through Missouri Farmers Care's Agriculture Education on the Move™ (Ag Moves). Montgomery County FFA member educators are leading Montgomery City and Jonesburg elementary students through the Ag Moves curriculum as they make connections to their food, fuel, fibers and farmers today.

In the past year, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has received reports from citizens who collectively lost nearly $71,000.00 to scams. Sadly, that number only represents those who reported the crime, many victims never come forward due to feeling of embarrassment or ashamed.

Even the chilly conditions didn’t stop the Jonesburg Elementary staff from celebrating a new addition to its school. JBE held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to introduce its new intermediate playground for students grades 3-5. The event was attended by staff members, students and numerous members in the Montgomery County community. JBE principal Jenny Krattli was the emcee, students Kenzie Wilson and Quinn Cope did some speaking and another student, Parker Calbreath, cut the ribbon.

The Montgomery County and Wellsville-Middletown FFA chapters will travel to Indianapolis this week to participate in the 98th Annual National FFA Convention and Expo, which starts on Oct. 29 and ends on Nov. 1.

Wellsville's favorite fall tradition found a new home this year—and it couldn't have been more perfect. On Oct. 4, families from across Wellsville gathered at the newly renovated Kiwanis Ballpark to celebrate Autumnfest, the town’s annual celebration of community, color and the changing seasons. SCAM ALERT: The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office would like to warn residents of an increase in scams involving money transfer applications such as Cash App, Venmo and PayPal, as well as phone and computer-based fraud attempts. Scammers are contacting individuals through phone calls, text messages, social media and email, often claiming to be from a government agency, business or even a family member in need. Victims are then instructed to send money through mobile payment apps, cards or to mail cash, checks or other financial documents to a specific address. The Sheriff’s Office reminds citizens that legitimate agencies and businesses will never request payment through mobile apps or request you to download an app or mail them cash. If you receive a suspicious message or call asking for money, do not send funds, download apps or share personal information. Hang up and contact the organization directly using a verified phone number other than the one the caller calls from or gives you.

The Jonesburg-High Hill Fire Protection District received a huge gift over the summer. The fire department got a new truck with a 75-foot aerial ladder. It was given by the Mehlville Fire Protection District, located in south St. Louis County.

The September 2025 Students of the Month for Wellsville-Middletown Junior and Senior High are Ryelan Brison (junior high) and Cameron Pittker (high school).
