Did you see the special banners on the Montgomery City Public Library’s truck in the MoCo Fair parade? Maybe you saw it carried in the Old Threshers Parade. Next year will be the 100th anniversary of the Montgomery City Public Library!
We are very excited to celebrate this milestone with the community. Special events will be planned throughout May 2027. Be on the lookout for more announcements and dates in the upcoming months.
In the meantime, I’d like to share with you the current mission, values, vision and goals of the Montgomery City Public Library.
Montgomery City Public Library’s mission seeks to create an environment for lifelong learning and personal growth to meet the needs of our diverse community.
Our values include community, future-focused, integrity, intellectual freedom and collaboration. We respond to community needs and support the free exchange of diverse ideas to strengthen our community and stimulate personal growth. We respond appropriately to emerging practices and technology in library and information sciences and anticipate change in our community and environment. We are committed to transparency, accountability and treating our patrons, staff and diverse community members with respect and courtesy. We uphold the right to privacy, confidentiality and the right to seek, access and express diverse points of view.
Montgomery City Public Library’s vision is to: connect with the needs of a growing and diverse community; develop strong community ties through a variety of literacies, programming and activities; offer instruction and increase access to evolving technology; provide valuable patron service by motivated, knowledgeable and friendly staff; and exhibit fiscal responsibility and community awareness.
Goals for the Montgomery City Public Library include expanding the community’s knowledge of the library through advocacy, increase volunteer participation, offer programs that support various types of literacy (reading, food, technology, social, financial, health, etc.) and create programming for all ages to attract new users to the library and provide the public with opportunities for lifelong learning. Other goals include continuing to add to the library’s technology resources, maintain a transparent budget and seek additional funding sources. There are several specific activities for each goal.
The two largest activities include creating a plan and budget for a renovated kitchen space which would include a demonstration setup and increased cooking capabilities and a designated space for the Creation Station Maker Space. We are accepting monetary donations and memorials for these new spaces. Please designate the kitchen or Creation Station on your check or note.
The Montgomery City Public Library is an amazing resource for a small town. It is a safe, welcoming space for everyone. In addition to our collection of books, MCPL offers a wonderful children’s area with open-ended toys, tables for independent activities or small groups, a puzzle table and a green screen.
We also have two meeting rooms, magazines, DVDs, games, book discussion kits, STEAM kits, Healing Library kits, Memories Matter kits, a Library of Things and a Creation Station Maker Space. If we don’t have the title you’re looking for, our interlibrary loan service can help! We can request books, DVDs, and games from other libraries and have them sent to MCPL for you to check out.
We invite you to stop by the Montgomery City Public Library to explore our collections, enjoy a cup of coffee, unwind with a puzzle, meet friends, attend a program or simply say hello to our staff. Whether you’re looking for a good book, a place to connect or a welcoming space to spend some time, you’ll find friendly and knowledgeable staff at MCPL. We look forward to seeing you!
