For the first time in five years, the Montgomery County baseball team will be playing for a district championship.
The Wildcats defeated Bowling Green 5-0 in a Class 3, District 5 semifinal game at their home field on Saturday. They will play the Duchesne Pioneers at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the distinct finals at the Bridgeton Athletic Complex.
Duchesne and MCHS are the top two seeds in the five-team district tournament.
Field conditions in Bridgeton moved Saturday’s district semifinal games to MCHS. The games were originally scheduled to be played Saturday morning and afternoon. The Wildcats’ game with Bowling Green started at about 7 p.m.
The Wildcats improved to 19-6 with the win over third-seeded Bowling Green. They beat the Bobcats 3-0 earlier in the season.
Mac Farrar was the winning pitcher in Saturday’s game. He went the distance, striking out eight, walking one and giving up just two hits to pick up his third win on the mound this season.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the second and three in the fifth. In the second, MCHS got RBI singles by Brendan Crider and Liam Combs. In the fifth, Crider and Adrian Combs scored on a throwing error and Noah Beck scored on a wild pitch.
The Wildcats will play Duchesne for the second time this season on Monday. They lost to the St. Charles school 10-0 in late March.
MCHS is looking to win its first district championship since 2019. The Wildcats will be making their first district final appearance since 2021, when they lost to Elsberry in a Class 3, District 6 championship game. They lost in the district semifinals in each of the last four years, but that streak was broken with Saturday’s win over Bowling Green.
