Randy Rodgers of Bellflower was presented the Peter C. Meyer Service Award during the Missouri Agriculture Association summer meeting on July 9 in Jefferson City.
Missouri State Senator Jason Bean presented the award, which recognizes true leaders in Missouri agriculture.
The Peter C. Myers Service Award recognizes true leaders in Missouri agriculture—those who serve, are committed to and have a true passion for the state and its number one industry: agriculture. The award is presented with support from the Jim Russell Foundation.
“Wheat, cover crops, and potash” is the motto this year’s recipient of the Peter C. Meyer Award lives by.
Rodgers has lived a servant life committed to agriculture. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1978 with a degree in animal husbandry. After completing his degree, Rodgers and his wife Peggy returned to the family farming operation, which consisted of hogs and row crops. The Rodgers have two children, Curt and Lori.
Rodgers began his career with Service & Supply COOP nearly 30 years ago. Throughout his career, he has helped farmers adopt precision technologies and soil conservation methods. Today, he serves as lead agronomist at Service & Supply COOP. As lead agronomist, he oversees 6 locations across Northeast Missouri.
Rodgers served as chairman of the Missouri Agribusiness Association in 2024. Throughout his involvement with the Missouri Agribusiness Association, he testified multiple times in front of legislators in support of crop protection tools and how important these tools are for farmers and soil conservation.
Rodgers did not need notes or much preparation for his testimonies, because he was able to share the real story of agriculture- the one he has lived. That authenticity is what sets him apart. He doesn’t just advocate for agriculture; he practices it.
“I believe we have to learn how to use wheat, cover crops, and no-till, because we have to preserve our soil,” is the philosophy he lives by every day – and the legacy of stewardship he is passing on to the next generation of Missouri farmers.
