Car wash under new ownership

When Alex Brant bought a car wash at 1001 S. Sturgeon in October, he didn’t have any trouble finding a name for it.

The Montgomery City resident named it after his son, Alexander, also known as Bubby. The car wash is called Bubby’s Bubbles Car Wash.

“I feel kind of proud because I have a car wash,” the 10-year-old Alexander said.

Alexander Brant, who will be a fourth-grade student at Montgomery City Elementary this fall, is the youngest of three children in the Brant family. When he was a baby, he was diagnosed with autism.

When he is not working at a car wash, Alexander enjoys playing with LEGOs and is an avid Monopoly player.

“I have a bunch of LEGOs in my room,” Alexander said.

Alex Brant is a sergeant of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department. He has been working at the department for 12 years. Recently, he became a member of the Mid-Missouri Major Case Squad. He also works part-time for the City of Montgomery.

“I’m always super busy,” Alex said.

Alex bought the car wash from the Van Horn family, which now runs Snappy Graphics at 400 S. Sturgeon. There is a window tinting business that is located next to the car wash. The Brant family owns the whole property.

“I was actually trying to buy the other car wash (at 801 N. Sturgeon), but it didn’t work out,” Alex said. “The opportunity came to buy this one from the Van Horns, who owned it for quite some time. We worked out a really good deal. They wanted it to stay local. So she (Tracy Van Horn) got a hold of me, and I wanted to get her car wash. We made a deal in October.”

After the Brant family bought the car wash, Alex has been teaching his son the basics on how to run a business. Another family member, Madison, owns a house rental business.

“Bubby and I have been working on things, like patching the parking lot up and keeping it up to date for everybody,” Alex said. “We’ll keep it in good shape, do some upgrades and go from there. Hopefully, when Bubby gets to be about 16 or 18, he can kind of take over more of the duties.”

On Aug. 2, Alexander gave about a 10-minute tour of the car wash, which includes three car washing bays, a soda machine, a coin machine and a vacuum cleaner. At the end of the tour, the 10-year-old had some final words.

“Have a bubby day!” he said.
