The Montgomery County Wildcats celebrated another victory over the Wright City Wildcats on Friday.

This time, they did it in come-from-behind fashion.

MCHS improved to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in Eastern Missouri Conference play after knocking off Wright City 34-33 in the battle of the Wildcats at Wright City. The Wildcats came back from a 19-0 deficit to defeat Wright City for the seventh straight year.

Junior quarterback Jacob Hogue scored two touchdowns, including the game winner with 13 seconds left. His six-yard run on third down gave the Wildcats the 34-33 lead.

Wright City, which dropped to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in EMO play, had a chance to win the game on a Hail Mary pass from junior Duan McRoberts from the 50-yard line, but it was intercepted by senior Mason Leu.

Senior Weston Marshall scored two touchdowns and senior Jacer Brower scored a touchdown for the MCHS Wildcats, who won their third road game of the season. They also had road wins over Hermann and Mark Twain.

The Wildcats bounced back from an 82-20 loss to Bowling Green in a Week 5 game. With the victory over Wright City, they have doubled their win total of two from last year.

With Wright City leading 19-0, MCHS got a seven-yard TD catch from Marshall and a two-point conversion from Hogue with 16 seconds left in the second quarter to cut the lead to 19-8. A 90-yard touchdown catch from Marshall and a two-point conversion from senior Jace Ellis with 5:40 to go in the third quarter trimmed Wright City’s lead to 19-16.

After Wright City boosted its lead to 27-16, MCHS came back with a 30-yard touchdown catch from Brower with 11:17 remaining in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 27-22. Brower now has six touchdowns this season.

Wright City later extended its lead to 33-22 with 2:21 to go before the Wildcats struck back with a five-yard touchdown run from Hogue with 1:44 left that cut the lead to 33-28.

MCHS got the ball back after Brower recovered an onside kick from senior Christian Naylor. Five plays later, Hogue scored his six-yard touchdown run to give MCHS the lead for the first time in the contest.

McRoberts scored two touchdowns and Carle’on Jones, Denzel Dowdy and Kayden Allison each scored a touchdown for Wright City, which had its three-game winning streak snapped.

The Wildcats are back in action at 7 p.m. on Oct. 6, when they face the Louisiana Bulldogs in a Homecoming game at Jim Blacklock Field. They defeated Louisiana 22-14 on the road last year.
