Montgomery County celebrated Constitution Week on Sept. 17-23.
Constitution Week gives citizens an opportunity to learn about the U.S. Constitution and to celebrate the freedoms it gave the citizens.
The Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress 71 years ago to set aside Sept. 17-23 as dates for Constitution Week to be observed. Congress adopted the resolution and President Dwight Eisenhower signed it into public law on Aug. 2, 1956.
Montgomery City Proclamation of Constitution Week
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Montgomery, Missouri, enjoy the opportunity to show their appreciation for great moments in history that shape our country and community; and
WHEREAS, September 17, 2026, marks the 239th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention on Sept. 17, 1787; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to officially recognize this magnificent document and the anniversary of its creation, and to the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate the occasion; and
WHEREAS, the United States is observing its historic 250th anniversary (semiquincentennial), highlighting our nation’s enduring democratic journey; and
WHEREAS, small towns and local businesses rotted within them form the economic and civic backbone of the American republic;
WHEREAS, public law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States of America designating September 17-23 as constitution week; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Mike Spirz, Mayor of the City of Montgomery, Missouri, do hereby proclaim September 17-23, 2026, to be Constitution Week in the City of Montgomery, Missouri, and ask our citizens to reaffirm the ideals the Framers of the Constitution had in 1787.
