A pair of Montgomery County athletes earned all-state medals after the first day of the competition at the Class 3 state track meet on Friday at Jefferson City.

Sophomore Tyler Erwin earned third-place finishes in the long jump and high jump and junior El Reagan placed third in the pole vault.

Erwin received his first all-state award in the long jump after finishing with a 22-9.25, setting a school record. The old mark is 22-1, which was set by Ehren Banfield in 2000.

Erwin was in first place after jumping a 22-3 on the first attempt. Jason Williams of Orchard Farm won the title in 23 feet and Bleyne Bryant of Bowling Green came in second with a 22-11.25.

After finishing with a jump of 6-4 in the high jump, Erwin earned his second straight all-state medal in the event. He placed eighth last year.

Reagan didn’t celebrate another state title in the pole vault, but she left Jefferson City with her third straight all-state medal in the event. She placed first last year and eighth the year before.

Reagan vaulted a 10-6.25 and finished behind a pair of seniors, Osage’s Madison Kessler and Palmyra’a Abbey Redd. Kessler and Redd finished in a tie for first with a 10-9, but Kessler was awarded the state title after she was the first athlete to a clear a 10-6.25.

The efforts from Erwin and Reagan marked the 11th year in a row the Wildcats had at least one athlete on the podium.

Erwin will look to get his third all-state medal at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, when he competes in the triple jump.

Junior Jacer Brower will look to get a second all-state medal as he competes in the finals of the 400-meter dash at 1:55 p.m. Saturday. Last year, he was part of an 800-meter relay team that got seventh.

Brower advanced to the finals by finishing third in his heat and third overall with a personal-best and school-record time of 50.47 seconds. A year ago, he competed in the 400 at state, but didn’t make it out of preliminaries.

Junior Malia Rodgers competed in the 3,200 at the state meet on Friday, but came up two places short of a medal, finishing 10th with a 12:01.12. She earned a seventh-place medal in her freshman year and finished ninth as a sophomore.

Senior Lyric Ford will competed in the 1,600 and 800 on Saturday. Her 1,600 race is scheduled for 12:35 p.m. and her 800 will be at 2:40 p.m. Ford earned all-state medals in the 1,600 in each of the last two years.

Erwin, Reagan, Brower, Rodgers and Ford are the Wildcats’ lone representatives at the state meet.
