Montgomery County head track coach Stephanie Finke was one of five members named to the William Woods Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 27.
Finke, whose maiden name is Sebacher, graduated from William Woods in 2001. She was a two-sport standout at the Fulton school, ranking 11th on the career scoring chart (1,310 points) for women’s basketball and first in single-season kills (588) and attacks (1,284) for volleyball.
In basketball, Finke was named the American Midwest Conference MVP in her junior year and an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention in her senior year. She was a two-time all-AMC academic team honoree. She finished with 1,310 points, 494 field goals made, 681 rebounds, 46 blocks, 117 assists and 173 steals. Her career field goal percentage of .572 is the fifth-highest in women’s basketball program history.
In volleyball, Finke is the career record holder in kills (1,987), kills per game (3.33), solo blocks (174), block assists (305), total blocks (457) and attacks (4,600). She is fourth in service aces with 154. Finke’s award accolades include 10 all-tournament teams; three AMC first-team awards in 1998, 1999 and 2000; NAIA All-Region team twice in 1999 and 2000; All-American Honorable Mention in 1999 and 2000; and the AMC academic team in 2000.
Finke is enjoying a successful tenure as the Wildcats’ track coach. She helped the girls team win six Eastern Missouri Conference championships and two district titles and the boys squad win an EMO title in 2012. She also coached two individual state champions, one of them is her daughter, Renee, who came out on top in the high jump in 2019 and 2021.
Finke, who teaches physical education at MCHS, also coaches basketball and softball at Montgomery County Middle School.
Joining Finke in the William Woods Hall of Fame were Darren Munns, John Hayes, MacKenzie Bowden and Brent Almond.
