Even the hot weather didn’t cool off Aliviah Fischer’s bat at the New Haven Softball Classic on Aug. 28.
The Montgomery County freshman was an offensive machine for the Wildcats in the eight-team tournament. She hit a two-run homer against Elsberry in the semifinals and went 2 for 3 with a double against Russellville in the finals. The effort helped MCHS finish second with a 2-1 record.
“Aliviah is going to be a beast,” MCHS coach Audra Heimer said. “She hits the ball hard. She waits on it and she’s disciplined at the plate. I think she’s going to do big things this year.”
Fischer is the younger sister of senior pitcher Brooklynn Fischer, who earned all-Eastern Missouri Conference, all-district and all-region honors in 2020 and tossed a complete game no-hitter against Hermann on Aug. 31.
“I’m really close with Brooklynn because she’s my sister and I’m close with all of the other girls on the team,” Fischer said. “It’s so fun to actually be able to play with them.”
In the fifth inning against Elsberry at the New Haven Tournament, Fischer hit a two-run homer. Just four days before, the freshman hit a solo shot over the left-field fence against Silex in a four-team jamboree at MCHS.
“At the jamboree, she hit that ball about halfway through the cornfield, which is probably about 25 feet over the fence,” Heimer said. “Against Elsberry, she hit a good one. I said if it stays fair, it’s gone and it did. It was a good hit.”
Fischer, who bats in the No. 4 spot in the starting lineup, said she was happy to hit her first home run in the high school level against Elsberry.
“It was pretty exciting,” she said.
In the Wildcats’ 6-1 loss to Russellville in the finals, Fischer singled in the second and doubled in the fourth, becoming the only MCHS player to finish with two hits in the contest. She also reached first on a Russellville error.
Fischer said her goal for the rest of her freshman season is to improve on her fielding. She plays third base.
“It’s my absolute favorite position,” Fischer said. “I love it so much.”
Fischer has been playing select softball since she was 7. She played with the Top Gun squad from St. Louis.
Fischer said she has a good relationship with Heimer. She has been going to Heimer’s softball camps since she was 10. She also played with Heimer for the Montgomery County Middle School girls basketball team last year.
“I get along well with Heimer,” Fischer said.
Fischer is one of several new players on the team that includes freshman Miley Rieke and junior Claire Elliott. She said she enjoyed playing softball at the high school level after a week.
“It’s definitely different, but I think I like it a lot because I get to play with my sister and all of the people I’m really close with,” Fischer said.
