James “Jim” Joseph Welschmeyer, 72, of rural Wellsville, died Saturday, November 5, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg with Father Philip Kane officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kale Miller, Eric Welschmeyer, Scott Jones, Gary Wilburn, Dan Kleinsorge, Jon Clowe, and Jeremy Welschmeyer.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a Rosary at 4 p.m. Myers Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Jim Welschmeyer was born January 26, 1950, in Mexico (Audrain County), to Joseph Welschmeyer and Eileen (Worland) Welschmeyer. He graduated from Wellsville-Middletown R-1 High School in 1968 and then served in the United States Army. Jim married Barbara Jean Primus on January 23, 1971, in Martinsburg. They were married for 51 years and raised four wonderful daughters. Jim was a life-long farmer and good steward of his land and animals, raising milo, soybeans, cattle, and hogs. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a member of Martinsburg American Legion Post 552, serving a term as post commander. He absolutely never met a stranger and would go out of his way to help others.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of the home, as well as four daughters: Katy Korte and husband, Chris, of Kirksville; Kris Welschmeyer of Columbia, and friend Ken Monach of St. Joseph; Abby Lynn and husband, Travis, of Centralia; and Anna Powell and husband, Chad, of Danville; six grandchildren: Zoe, Isaiah and Eleisa Korte; and Silas, Alva and Jasper Powell; mother-in-law, Margaret Primus, of Martinsburg; two brothers: Harold Welschmeyer of Mexico; and Pat Welschmeyer of Acapulco, Mexico; three sisters: Jane Bellinghausen and husband, Bob, of Columbia; Barbara Jones and husband, Larry, of Fulton; and Mary Beth Strassner and husband, David, of Swiss. Also surviving are his brothers- and sisters-in-law: Paul Primus and wife, Elizabeth, of Williamsburg; Richard Primus and wife, Sandra, of Martinsburg; Peggy Wilburn and husband, Dale, of Martinsburg; Rose Korte and husband, Michael, of St. Joseph; Mary Jo Kleinsorge and husband, Rich, of Middletown; Cathy Gannon and husband, Greg, of DeWitt, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Eileen (Worland) Welschmeyer; his father-in-law, Paul Primus; his sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Richard Miller; and his brother-in-law, Eddie Primus.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library or to the Martinsburg American Legion Post 552. They may be sent in care of Myers Funeral Home, 203 E. Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
