John Leslie Maskey, 80, of Wellsville, passed away at 2:52 p.m. on May 11, 2022 at St. Andrew’s at New Florence Nursing Home.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on May 14 at Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville with Rev. Kevin Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery in Middletown.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Maskey was born on January 17, 1942, in Audrain County, a son of Eli Ulysses and Lulu Gwenola (Lionberger) Maskey. He graduated from Wellsville High School in 1960. Upon graduation, he served in the United States Navy active duty from 1960-1964. He then served two years inactive.  He was an engineer man second class and served aboard the USS Sabine during the Cuban Crisis.

John married Judith Ann Tamme on June 30, 1961. John and Judy lived in Wellsville for most of their marriage. 

John worked in the Mexico and Wellsville areas as a service lineman. First, he worked for Rural Electric Cooperative, then Ameren UE for a total of 42 years. He loved to ride his motorcycle, take many trips and go camping. He also enjoyed fishing, mainly snagging for spoonbill and scroll sawing.

John is survived by his two sons and their wives, Kevin Ray (Angela) Maskey of Augusta, Ga., and Kenneth Brian “Pix” (Kelly) Maskey of Wellsville; five grandchildren, Brian (Michelle) Maskey of Wellsville, John V. Maskey of Wellsville, Jason (Krysta) Maskey of O’Fallon, Forrest Maskey of Augusta and Amber Martin of Tampa, Fla.; and eight great grandchildren, Hunter, Ayden, Kale, Jack, Emalynn, Willow, Braydon, and Brody; two brothers, Murray Maskey and Gary (Janice) Maskey of Wellsville; one sister, Myra Joan Smith of Montgomery City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-in-law Donald Smith; one sister-in-law Florence Maskey, and one granddaughter-in-law Alicia Maskey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Fairmount Cemetery. They may be sent in care of Myers Funeral Home, 203 E. Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
