A Jonesburg man has been charged with multiple felonies in connection with the Tuesday, July 21, shooting of his neighbor.
Roger Fischer has been charged with first-degree assault causing serious physical injury, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. The shooting happened near the intersection of Railroad Street and Sherwood Avenue, Jonesburg Police Officer Ron McBride told the Record.
Shortly after 10 a.m., Fischer parked his car in front of his neighbor’s driveway and began arguing with him about a hole in his garage door, according to a probable cause statement.
Fischer later told police that while he was arguing with the other man, the man started walking towards Fischer's car with his hands up in a fighting stance and yelled something at him, although Fischer did not know what he yelled. Fischer told police this caused him to fear for his life, according to the statement.
As Fischer’s neighbor approached the car, Fischer shot him multiple times in the torso with a Walther PPK .22 semi-automatic pistol, according to police.
The man who was shot was transported to an area hospital and was undergoing surgery on his liver, colon, stomach, and bladder following the shooting.
“The victim and Fischer have had several arguments in the past and at one point Fischer had said if we couldn’t stop the victim from damaging his house he was going to take care of it himself,” McBride wrote in the probable cause statement.
“I believe Fischer drove to the victim’s residence with the anticipation of an altercation and was fully aware of his actions.”
Fischer, born in 1948, is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Jail.
“I believe if Fischer is released he will return to the scene and cause more damage to the victim’s residence,” McBride wrote.
