In a span of 12 hours on June 22, a total of 16 Jonesburg players got to participate in a big baseball showcase.
All of them played in the Second Annual Lincoln County Athletic Association All-Star Games at the Hawk Point Athletic Association Complex. The Jonesburg players were Tate Aguilar (14U baseball), Cohen Beattie (14U baseball), Abby Cobb (10U softball), Trent Cope (8U baseball), Aurora Gibson (12U softball), Mia Hemphill (12U softball), Owen Hillebrand (14U baseball), Garrett Hoener (8U baseball), Jacob Hoener (11U baseball), Trystan McBain (11U baseball), Claire McChristy (10U softball), Aubrey Oden (10U softball), Colton Parmalee (8U baseball), Weston Parmalee (11U baseball), Emry Salazar (8U baseball) and Levi Wolfe (11U baseball).
Games were played in four different fields from 9:30 a.m. to about 10 p.m. There were eight baseball divisions and six softball divisions in the all-star game. The Optimist Club of Jonesburg was one of many sponsors in the event.
There were about 400 players who participated in the event. Claire, who played third base in the 10U softball contest, was thrilled to be part of that group.
“I really enjoyed playing here because you don’t really get to do this a lot of times in your lifetime,” Claire said. “It means a lot to me because you get to play at a different place and experience it with other people.”
Out of the 16 players, five of them – Emry, Weston, Garrett, Aurora and Abby – played in the all-star event for the second year in a row. Last year, they were part of 25 Jonesburg players who participated in the first annual all-star event that included players from Troy, Hawk Point, Moscow Mills, Old Monroe, Elsberry, Warrenton and Winfield.
Abby played center field in the 10U contest. She caught a pop fly in the bottom of the first inning.
“I had a lot of fun because I got to experience it with different people and I made a lot of friends,” Abby said. “It made the game much easier and much fun to play.”
Aubrey played shortstop, first base and right center in the 10U softball game.
“I’m usually a pitcher, so it’s fun to try the other spots,” Aubrey said.
Cohen, Tate and Owen are teammates of the Mike’s AutoCrafts team during the regular season. In the all-star game, the three players were split up. Cohen and Tate played on the blue team, while Owen played with the red squad that had six Troy players.
“It’s fun to meet up with everybody from other teams in different divisions,” said Owen, who scored a run.
Tate was one of the pitchers of the blue team.
“I had a lot of fun,” Tate said. “Pitching didn’t go like I wanted it to, but I just have to bounce back and get them next time.”
Cohen said he enjoyed the experience of playing in the all-star game with his father, Jace, being one of the coaches.
“I was happy,” Cohen said. “I made a goal at the beginning of the season to make it here and I did.”
