Joyce Elizabeth Fischer (nee: Schwartz) of Jonesburg passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, February 23, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 19,1938 in Warrenton to the late Fred and Hester (nee: Harlan) Schwartz. Joyce reached the age of 86 years.
Joyce was united in marriage to Harold Fischer on October 27, 1956. They celebrated 68 wonderful years together. This union was blessed with two children. Joyce was known for her extraordinary collection of cookie jars. This collection included 800 different jars in total. She loved cooking during the holidays and being surrounded by her family. Joyce also loved traveling to many places, reading, fishing, antiquing and shopping. She worked on the family farm alongside her husband and son, whether it was driving a tractor or truck or simply working in her garden. Her favorite pastime later in life was riding side-by-side with her family down on Massas Creek and around her family farm. Joyce was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Hester; two sister-in-laws, Jeanie Schwartz and Luella Fischer; one brother-in-law, William Fischer. She survived by her loving husband, Harold; son, Brad Fischer; daughter, Cherilyn Davis and husband Joe; three granddaughters, Tammy Ridgley, Jennifer Witthaus (JR), and Haley Cummings (Connor); seven great-grandchildren, Avery, Blake, Kylie, Makayla, Ruger, Renlee, and Ridge; brothers, Roger Schwartz and John Schwartz; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Joyce Fischer on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jonesburg. A celebration of her life will follow at the Jonesburg Community Hall from 4 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested to be given to the Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in care of Martin Funeral Home, 510 E.
