Larry James Hauser, 85, of Big Spring, passed away peacefully in his home on August 17, 2026.

Larry was born on October 12, 1940, to Walter & Edna (Heldt) Hauser.

He was married to his high school sweetheart, Ruth (Schneider) Hauser. They were married on February 27, 1960, in Hermann. Together, they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage. They had two children, Curt & Lori.

Larry graduated from Hermann High School in 1958. He briefly attended college in Warrensburg before returning home to work on the farm with his dad, eventually taking over the row cropping and raising cattle and hogs. In addition to farming, he obtained his real estate license and sold property for Judy Warden Real Estate. In 1986, he went to work at Maczuk Chevrolet as the manager and salesman. He retired from there in 2007.

Larry was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved the farm and taking care of his cattle, spending time in the garden, cutting wood and his favorite was eating homemade ice cream any chance he could get.  One of Larry's greatest delights was spending time with his grandchildren, Nicole and Ethan, and his great-grandchildren, Clyde and Malori.

Larry and Ruth were members of St. John's United Church of Church in High Hill for 43 years, where many wonderful friendships developed. He served several times over the years as a board member. He also served on the Montgomery County Fair Board.

Larry is survived by his wife, Ruth Hauser of Big Spring; a son, Curt Hauser of Millersburg; a daughter, Lori Stiers & husband David of Rhineland; a sister, Shirley Kunz, of Hermann; a sister-in-law, Carol Nolting of Chicago; two grandchildren, Nicole Hart & husband Blake and their son Clyde and Ethan Stiers and daughter Malori, both of Hermann; and many dear nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter & Edna Hauser; his father and mother-in-law, Edwin & May Schneider; a sister-in-law, Ethel Dougherty-Blaise; and three brothers-in-law, Edward Dougherty, Roy Nolting and Raymond Kunz.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. on Aug. 21 at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home in Hermann, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.
