Mary Viola Whyte Engelbrecht, 78, of Bellflower died on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at her home surrounded by family.

Mary Viola Whyte Engelbrecht was born January 4, 1943 in St. Louis to Marvin Austin “Pete” Whyte and Frances Bernadette Cunningham Whyte. She was a graduate of Montgomery County R-II High School.

Mary married Stanley E. Engelbrecht on April 8, 1961 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City. Stanley preceded her in death on April 6, 2006. Mary ran the Sears Store in Vandalia for a number of years. She also worked at Flying J in Truxton. 

Mary was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City and enjoyed gardening, cooking, working outside and reading. Mary loved to be with all her family and many friends.

Mary is survived by her two daughters: Kelli Kelly and husband, Carl, of Moberly and Karen Engelbrecht and Clint of Bellflower; grandchildren: Austin Kelly of Moberly, Lauren Kelly and Kyle, of Moberly; and Angie Joralemon and husband, Bill, of San Diego, Calif.; great-grandchildren: Clayton, Greyson and Hayden Joralemon of San Diego, Calif.; Audrey Kelly of Moberly; and Jaclyn Kelly Joseph of Moberly; brother, Tom Whyte and wife, Betty, of Montgomery City; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin “Pete” and Frances Whyte; brothers: James Whyte and John Whyte; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edwin and Ella Engelbrecht; grandson, Mark Kelly; nephew, Mark Whyte; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Vicky Shepard.

Mrs. Engelbrecht was cremated and there will be private services.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 19 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at the Bellflower Community Building. 

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Bellflower Community Building, in care of Karen Engelbrecht, 44 Baptist Road, Bellflower, MO 63333.

Schlanker Funeral Home of Montgomery City was in charge of the arrangements.
