This spring, the Montgomery City Public Library was awarded $8,023 for the Adventures Begin at Your Library summer library program by the Institute of Museum and Library Services Act and the Missouri State Library. With the grant funds, MCPL will take preschoolers, children, teens and adults on all kinds of adventures through several programs, take-home kits, new books and DVDs.
Free programs are available to all ages and abilities and do not require a library card to participate. MCPL will have three professional presenters this summer: Chef Bananas on June 3, Talewise Theater Group on June 14 and Happy Faces Entertainment on July 24. Other programs from June through July include sewing, crafting a Department of Conservation visit, movie nights, an event at the Graham Cave State Park and more.
Patrons will have the opportunity to win prizes if they register for the SRP program, read a certain amount of minutes and complete the reading record. The babies through preschool group could win a karaoke machine with 100 preloaded songs. The children, teens and adults who complete their reading logs could win a Kindle Fire tablet. Registration will begin towards the end of May. The summer library adventures at MCPL will be from June 1-July 31.
This grant project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
“I’m excited for this summer’s theme: ‘Adventure Begins at Your Library’ because it’s so true,” MCPL director Gaylee Harris said. “You can visit countries around the world, visit new galaxies, travel to the past – or future – all through books. You can learn new things by reading books. Be ready to go on all kinds of adventures when you visit MCPL or participate in our summer reading program!”
