The Middletown Reunion returns for its 133rd year on Saturday as residents from the Middletown area will get to spend a day filled with food, games, music and fun.
The event starts at 11 a.m. with a parade that will begin on South Street and end at the Middletown Community Center on East Main Street. Afterwards, food will be served and activities will be held at the picnic grounds.
The theme for this year’s reunion is “Meet Me In The Middle: A Star-Spangled Celebration,” honoring the United States’ 250th birthday.
“We had several ideas for a theme floating around,” said Caren Whitehead, one of the event’s organizers. “Two of which were A Star Spangled Celebration in honor of America 250 and the geographic wordplay of Meet Me in The Middle. Ultimately, we just combined it into: Meet Me in The Middle: A Star Spangled Celebration.”
The event will include a flower show, silent auction, cake walk, cornhole, volleyball, Bingo and classic kids games such as the frog jump, turtle race, a three-legged race, candy scramble, penny scramble and sack race. Music will be provided by DJ Frankie Fresh from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.
Whitehead said there will be a drink only line at the food tent that could reduce the wait time for those who need to purchase only a beverage. Also, the attendance prize registration and drawing will be moved outside to leave more space for the flower room and silent auction inside at the community center.
Last year’s theme was “Raise The Roof.” The event raised money to make repairs for its community center that is more than 20 years old.
“The primary function of the event, as an annual fundraiser, is to earn enough to cover the annual carrying cost of the Middletown Community Center - including utilities and insurance,” Whitehead said. “In 2025, we had a special emphasis on earning funds for our roof replacement. Through the generous support of our community, we raised just over $14,000 last year. It was enough to pay for the roof; the surplus covered most of our regular bills.”
Whitehead said she was pleased with the turnout of last year’s picnic.
“While the weather was warmer than we would have preferred, it wasn’t sweltering,” she said. “As always, the people in and of the area came out to support the Community Center.”
The Middletown Reunion is held every year on the second Saturday of August.
