Nancy H. McKellar slipped from this life on Friday, March 10, 2023. She died of cancer at age 66.

Nancy was born in Fayetteville, Tenn., in 1957. When she was quite young, her family moved to Huntington, Ind., where she grew up. She learned to sew on a machine and began making clothing for herself and friends. In 1975, she took a Greyhound bus to Atlanta, Ga., where she found her career in the world of costumes. In addition to masquerade and commercial jobs, Nancy also built costumes for the stage, ballet, opera, movies and television.

She met and married the love of her life, Bill McKellar in 1993.

In 1994, Nancy retired from costuming and moved to Southern Indiana, where she was clerk treasurer for the town of Laconia. In 1999, she helped resurrect Laconia Days, their annual festival. She also began her avocation for art quilts and fabric dyeing.

She moved to Montgomery City in 2011. She was president of the Montgomery County Arts Council from 2013-2017. She also served on the Chamber of Commerce and the MU Extension Office. Nancy was an avid knitter and puzzle solver and a lifelong Democrat. She was funny and loved to make others laugh, often intentionally. She loved music despite having no talent.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Frances (Gray) Hall. She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” McKellar; sister-in-law, Shawna McKellar; and brother-in-law Michael McKellar, all of the home; brothers, Larry (Brenda) Hall of Churubusco, Ind., Harry Hall of Roanoke, Va., and Bill (Jody) Hall of Lexington, Ohio.

She said, “Buy flowers for yourself or your loved ones, not for me.” There will be no memorial service.
