The Montgomery County Wildcats had a pair of players who were named to the Class 3 all-state basketball team, which was released by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association.
Sophomore Clayton Parker represented the Wildcats on the all-state boys team, while junior Malia Rodgers was the lone MCHS player on the all-state girls squad.
Parker became the fourth Wildcat in nine years to be named on the all-state team, joining his brother, Collin (2021), Chase Parrish (2017) and Jerad Jordan (2014). Parker also received all-Eastern Missouri Conference notice and earned all-district honors from the MBCA and Northeast Missouri Media.
Parker averaged 23 points per game with 240 rebounds and 42 blocked shots. He also earned all-tournament honors at Montgomery County, South Callaway and Hermann and helped the Wildcats finish with 19 wins and capture an EMO crown.
Parker was one of just two sophomores on the all-state team. The other was PJ Farmer of Charleston.
Rodgers became the first MCHS girl to earn all-state honors since Amanda Austin in 1992. The junior also was named to the all-EMO team as well as the MBCA and Northeast Missouri all-district squad. She was voted the Class 3, District 7 Most Valuable Player.
Rodgers led the Wildcats with 448 points. She was named MVP of the Montgomery County Invitational and was selected to the all-tournament teams at South Callaway and Hermann. She broke the 1,000-point mark for her career and is less than 300 points away from setting the all-team career scoring record. Rodgers helped the MCHS girls win 22 games and capture conference and district crowns.
Rodgers also received all-state honors in her third sport. She is a two-time all-state performer in cross country (freshman and sophomore years) and earned all-state honors in track in her freshman year.
Rodgers was part of an all-state team that included Skyline’s Kenzi Cheek and Ashlen Garrett. Skyline eliminated the Wildcats in sectional play on Feb. 28.
