As Wellsville-Middletown R-I students and staff members get ready for a new school year, Superintendent Tiffany Gosseen was thrilled with the improvements that were made at the district buildings during the summer.
Work was done at the elementary, junior high and high schools between May and August. Gosseen shared her thoughts on the projects during the school board meeting on Aug. 20.
“All of the ceiling tiles are back where they are supposed to be,” Gosseen said. “There is no cardboard on the floor. We got the projects done or as nearly done as one can hope for.”
Gosseen said the unit on the roof that was replaced will now have heating and cooling in the weight room. There was also some work done at the elementary gymnasium.
“We had these enormous projects done over the summer in a short amount of time,” Gosseen said.
Students and staff members got a chance to check out the improvements of the buildings at the R-I Open House, which was also held on Aug. 20. The board meeting was held later in the evening.
Gosseen said one of the best highlights of the open house was the Tiger Table food pantry, which was held at the elementary part of the building. The food pantry will be held on the first and third Thursday from 3:45 p.m.-6 p.m. each month. Clinetta Weinrich, Julie Day and Nancy Blaue are the helpers of the Tiger Table, which was formerly known as the Buddy Pack program. This free program is open to all students and family who reside in the R-I School District.
Also at the meeting, board members approved the tax rate of $4.4974 for the 2026-27 school year, which began Aug. 25. They also approved policies on credit card use, bank reconciliations, Title I parent involvement and employment procedures.
