Randall Ray Riddle, 70, of Montgomery City and Mokane, passed away on February 27, 2023 in Frisco, Texas.
The son of Thomas Neil Riddle and Lora Dene (Ellis) Riddle, Randy was born on September 18, 1952 in Mexico (Audrain County). He grew up in Montgomery City, where he developed both passion and skill for many sports and graduated from MCHS in 1971. He attended Drury College in Springfield, where he met Jeanie Lester and graduated with a degree in physical education in 1977. He married Jeanie on Dec. 31, 1977 and moved to Mokane, where he taught and coached for 31 years in the South Callaway School District.
Randy enjoyed many years of teaching physical education and driver’s education; coaching softball, basketball, track, and golf; and officiating softball, baseball, basketball, and track and field. He enjoyed and excelled at playing golf, ice hockey and remembering endless sports statistics. He spent 30 years in the family business, working alongside his parents at the Montgomery County Golf Club as the greens superintendent and golf pro. He once carded a hole-in-one. He was a member of First United Methodist Presbyterian Church of Montgomery City.
Randy is survived by Jeanie Riddle; his two children, Randee Rae Phelps (Luke) of Springfield and Thomas Riddle of Celina, Texas; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Lucas, Jonathan and Eleanor Phelps of Springfield, and Jackson Riddle of Celina, Texas; his sister, Roxanne Loyed (Robin) of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a niece, Sydney Loyed (Cameron Pawelek) of Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Callaway Christian Church in Fulton, with friends being received from 10 a.m.-noon. Interment will be at Montgomery City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Maupin Funeral Home, to go towards a student athlete scholarship fund to be set up at South Callaway High School in care of Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO 65251.
