Five Montgomery County and two Wellsville-Middletown players earned all-Eastern Missouri Conference basketball honors for the 2022-23 season.

Juniors Malia Rodgers, Maddy Queathem and Olivia Shaw and sophomores Clayton Parker and Isaiah Thomas represented the Wildcats on the all-conference team, while junior Bethany Slovensky and senior Logan Pursifull were the Tigers’ representatives on the all-league team.

Rodgers and Queathem were voted unanimous first-team selections on the all-EMO girls basketball team after they combined for 776 points and 121 three-pointers this season. It’s the second year in a row the two juniors were named to the all-EMO team.

Rodgers was the Wildcats’ leading scorer at 15.4 points per game. She averaged nearly 16 points per game in conference play, including a season-high, 26-point effort against Clopton on Feb. 2.

Queathem was second on the team in scoring at 11 points per game. She averaged 14 points per game in EMO play, including a season-high, 28-point effort against Mark Twain on Feb. 7.

Shaw was named to the second team. She earned her second straight all-conference basketball award after averaging seven points and 9.5 rebounds per game.

Shaw now has all-conference awards in three sports for the 2022-23 school year. She was named to the all-league teams in volleyball and cross country last fall.

MCHS girls basketball coach Joe Basinger earned EMO Coach of the Year honors.

Parker was named to the all-conference boys basketball team for the second straight year. He was a unanimous first-team selection after averaging 23 points per game with 240 rebounds and 42 blocked shots.

Thomas picked up his first all-EMO basketball award after being named on the first team. He averaged 10 points per game and led the team in assists with 84 and steals with 44.
Both MCHS girls and boys teams won conference championships at 10-0. The girls won their fourth straight EMO crown, while the boys captured their third league title in four years.

Slovensky was named to the all-conference girls basketball team for the third straight year after being named to the first team. The W-M junior earned second-team honors the last two years.

Pursifull earned his first all-EMO boys basketball award after being named to the second team. He missed the first eight games of the season due to an ACL injury he suffered last spring.

The W-M girls finished 4-6 in conference play, while the boys won just one league game.
