Thomas John Walker, 38, of Montgomery City died on Sunday, August 22, 2021, the result of a drowning accident in Lake Michigan. Mr. Walker was hailed a hero after saving the lives of two children.

Thomas was born June 1, 1983 in Mexico to James Roger Walker and Bonnie Bohannon Walker. Thomas was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Montgomery City. He worked for Brookstone in Mexico. His last job was at Fair Market in Montgomery City. 

Thomas enjoyed going to concerts and loved visiting with all his family and friends. He was great with children and will be dearly missed.

Thomas is survived by his parents, James Roger Walker and Bonnie Bohannon Walker of Montgomery City; siblings, Wayne Walker and fiancé, Kim, of Martinsburg; David Walker of Wellsville; Nancy Burle and husband, Nicholas, of Byron, Ill.; and Kevin Ray Walker of Montgomery City. Also surviving are his aunts, Geri Swartz, Kathi (Bobby) Munoz and Kathy (Bill) Rhymer; cousin Paul Rhymer and numerous other cousins; his nieces and nephews: Rilea, Skylar, Landon, Rees, and Drew; and many friends.

Thomas was preceded in death by his grandparents and one nephew, Tyler Joe Walker.

A Rosary and visitation was held on Aug. 29 at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City. A funeral Mass was held at the Immaculate Conception Church on Aug. 30 in Montgomery City, with Father Philip Kane officiating. An interment was at the Montgomery City Cemetery.

Casketbearers included Wayne, David, and Kevin Walker, Nicholas Burle, Jack Garrett, Jonathon Delozier, Justin Talley, and Mike Ridenour.
