On August 7, deputies received information on a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of St. Peters was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 through Montgomery County. Deputies located the vehicle and conducted a felony traffic stop near the 165-mile marker. The driver and passenger were detained without incident. During the investigation deputies learned the passenger had allegedly been renting the vehicle from the owner but had refused to return it after being instructed to do so. The passenger was arrested and transported to the MC Jail where she was charged with tampering with a motor vehicle 1st degree. The driver was not believed to have been involved in the theft of the vehicle; however, a records check revealed his driving privileges were suspended. He was also arrested, transported to the MC Jail and charged with driving while suspended/revoked. The stolen vehicle was recovered and the originating agency and vehicle owner were notified.

On August 8, deputies conducted a traffic stop in Montgomery City after observing a vehicle displaying expired registration. During the investigation deputies learned the 19-year-old driver did not possess a valid driver’s license and was unable to provide proof of insurance. The driver was arrested, transported to the MC Jail and charged with operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and operating a motor vehicle without financial responsibility.

Also on August 8, deputies responded to a residence in the McKittrick area for a reported violation of an order of protection. Deputies learned that a female subject who had previously been served with an active order of protection prohibiting her from being on the property, allegedly parked near the residence, walked onto the property and began yelling before leaving the area. Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. A warrant was subsequently obtained for violation of an order of protection (2nd Offense). On August 13, the suspect was located, arrested without incident, and transported to the MC Jail.

Again on August 8, corrections officers at the MC Jail responded to a disturbance involving a detainee who repeatedly attempted to obstruct the security camera inside her holding cell. Staff entered the cell on multiple occasions and removed toilet paper, linens, clothing and other items the detainee was using to prevent officers from monitoring the cell. Each time the obstruction was removed the detainee continued attempting to cover the camera and refused directives from corrections staff to stop. During the incident the detainee obtained a jail-issued cup, urinated into it, displayed the cup toward the security camera and repeatedly threatened to throw the urine into the faces of corrections officers. After numerous warnings, OC spray was deployed to gain compliance. The detainee then complied with instructions to dispose of the urine and was removed from the cell for decontamination. While officers were restraining and assisting the detainee, she intentionally spit on a corrections officer. EMS responded to the jail and evaluated the detainee, who was subsequently transported to a local hospital for additional medical evaluation related to the OC exposure before being returned to the MC Jail. As a result of the incident the detainee was charged with endangering a corrections employee, a class E felony.

On August 9, deputies responded to the Big Spring area for a reported domestic disturbance involving a child custody dispute. During the incident a male subject allegedly forcibly removed his 5-year-old daughter from a vehicle despite the child being upset and wanting to remain with her mother. The subject then began driving away with the child sitting unrestrained on his lap. The child’s mother was able to enter the moving vehicle before it left the area. While traveling on a gravel road the subject allegedly pointed what appeared to be an AR-style rifle at the mother in an attempt to gain her compliance. The mother was able to take the weapon and throw it from the moving vehicle, at which time she discovered it was actually a paintball gun designed to closely resemble a real firearm. She then climbed into the back seat, took the child from the driver and properly secured her in a child restraint.

Deputies located and stopped the vehicle in the New Florence area and safely recovered the mother and child. Additional deputies searched the route traveled by the vehicle and recovered the simulated firearm along the roadway. The male subject was arrested and transported to the MC Jail, where he was placed on a 24-hour hold pending a warrant application for kidnapping 2nd degree, endangering the welfare of a child 1st degree and domestic assault 4th degree.
