The Montgomery County volleyball team will be playing its second tournament on Saturday as it travels to Orchard Farm to play in the eight-team Orchard Farm Classic.
The Wildcats are playing in a pool that includes Veritas Christian Academy, Orchard Farm and Collinsville (Ill.). They are guaranteed to play five matches in the event if they finish in the top two in the pool.
MCHS starts its tournament play at 9 a.m. with a match against Orchard Farm. It will take on Veritas Christian at 9:45 a.m. and Collinsville at noon to wrap up pool play.
North Point, Duchesne, Wright City and Union are the other teams in the tournament.
The Wildcats are playing at the Orchard Farm tournament for the fourth year in a row. Last year, they finished at 0-2-1, losing to Collinsville and Orchard Farm and tying Veritas Christian.
MCHS began its season on Aug. 29 by playing in the Tolton Catholic Tournament for the second straight year. The Wildcats finished 2-1-1 in the tournament, getting wins over Christian Fellowship and Kirksville, tying Hallsville and losing to Linn.
The Wildcats will play their third and final regular season tournament on Oct. 10, when they compete in the Eldon Tournament.
MCHS has already surpassed its win total of three from last year. The Wildcats picked up their fourth win of the season after cruising past New Haven in three games in a road match on Sept. 10. Two days before, they won their third match of the season after knocking off Bowling Green in five games on the road.
Against Bowling Green, MCHS won the first two games (25-9, 25-16) lost the next two (22-25, 20-25) before winning 15-9 in the fifth game to take the match. Senior Mieka Ray turned in a strong effort in the victory, finishing with 20 kills and 15 digs.
