The Wellsville-Middletown Tigers enjoyed an outstanding spring athletic season as their baseball team surpassed its win total from last year and their track team had a pair of state qualifiers.

The baseball team finished 3-18, but surpassed its win mark of two from 2025 and celebrated its first postseason win in three years. Sophomore Olyn Davis and senior Isaac Todd were the top performers for the track team as they won district titles and qualified for state.

The baseball team defeated Marion County, Van-Far and Madison for its only wins of the season. After starting its season at 0-6, the Tigers beat Marion County 11-1 in a home game on April 8 for their first win of the season. They beat Van-Far 4-2 on April 24 for their first Eastern Missouri Conference victory since 2023 and knocked off Madison 5-4 in nine innings in a Class 1, District 4 quarterfinal game on May 20 for their first postseason win since May 11, 2023, when they beat Glasgow in a district quarterfinal game. W-M lost a pair of close games to Higbee (10-9) and Hermann (7-6).

“We played some tough games against good opponents,” said Alex Thull, who wrapped up his fourth season as coach. “We played some bad games against bad opponents that we wished we could have back.”

The Tigers had a strong season from freshman Andrew Maskey. He earned second-team all-EMO honors and was the lone player on the all-conference team.

W-M had five players who earned all-EMO academic honors. They were Maskey, Colton Schofield, Willard Shireman, Royce Wilkinson and Gage Nichols.

Julian Muller-Williams took over coaching duties for a W-M track team that had just seven athletes and lost one its athletes – last year’s all-state medalist Elly Cash – due to an ACL injury. He replaced John Slovensky, who retired after the 2025 season.

“I love just seeing all of the kids be happy and excited to go to meets, go to practices and work as hard as they can,” Muller-Williams said. “I feel like probably the best part is seeing how happy they are and how much they’re enjoying the sport.”

Davis and Todd competed in the 100 and the discus, respectively, at the state meet. They made their first state meet appearances.

Davis, who competed in track for the first time, won a district title in the 100 and qualified for state in the event by placing fourth in sectionals.
