The spring of 2026 was good to the Montgomery County Wildcats.

The Wildcats celebrated two Eastern Missouri Conference championships in baseball and girls track, had two all-state medalists and got a state qualifier in golf.

Both baseball and girls track teams won their 10th EMO championship this spring. The baseball team finished in a share of the league title with North Callaway at 9-1, while the girls track team won its seventh straight EMO crown.

Both all-state medalists came from girls track as Samantha Turner and Emma Rodgers made trips to the awards podium, finishing third in the shot put and eighth in the discus, respectively.

Karter Reagan participated in the Class 2 state golf tournament for the second year in a row. He was the Wildcats’ lone representative in the state event.

The baseball, track and golf teams had a combined 21 seniors. The baseball seniors were Mac Farrar, Adrian Combs, Colby Ellis, Chase Queathem, Seth Walton, Noah Beck, Edwin Garcia and Landyn Bender. The track seniors were Katlyn Kolling, Kendrick Lewis, Cooper Sellenriek, Ashton Johnson, Weston See, Riley Reid, Georgia Strahan, Cameron Knapp and Jacob Teson. Reagan, Wyatt March, Jake Ridenhour and Connor Bethel were the seniors on the golf team.

In addition to its EMO championship, the baseball team won a school-record 19 games, surpassing the old record of 18 that was set in 2019, the same year the Wildcats finished fourth in the state.

The baseball Wildcats finished with their fifth straight winning season. After starting off at 2-2, they won their next four games. They ended their regular season with a nine-game winning streak.

MCHS also picked up its first postseason victory since 2021, when it beat Bowling Green 5-0 in a Class 3, District 5 semifinal game at home.

“The seniors did a good job,” MCHS baseball coach Don Moultrie said. “I was really proud of them. We’ll miss them because we won’t have any seniors next year.”

The Wildcats were solid at the plate and on the mound. They finished with a .321 batting average and a 2.59 earned run average.

Eight players hit over .300. Sophomore Marshall Bishop was the team’s leading hitter at .472 and was the only player on the squad who hit over .400.

On the mound, Beck was the Wildcats’ top pitcher with an 8-1 record and a 1.50 earned run average. He won his first eight games before losing in the district finals to Duchesne.

MCHS suffered its only loss in conference play to North Callaway. In that contest, the Wildcats led 4-1 before the Thunderbirds rallied to win 5-4. The Wildcats won their first conference title since 2023.

Walton, Queathem, Ellis, Beck, Farrar and sophomore Marshall Bishop were the Wildcats’ representatives on the all-conference team. All six of those players – plus Combs – earned all-district honors.

Turner and Rodgers were the Wildcats’ top athletes in track this season. Turner had six wins each in shot put and discus and earned her fourth all-state medal with a third-place finish with the shot put. Rodgers had eight first-place finishes, including four in the 800, and picked up her second straight all-state medal with the eighth-place finish in the 800.

The Wildcats also had outstanding seasons from Lewis, Sellenriek and Mieka Ray. Lewis had three wins in the hurdles and jumping events, Sellenriek qualified for sectionals in the javelin and 400 and Ray had four wins in the triple jump and competed in the state meet in that event.

At the conference meet, the MCHS girls were in second to Louisiana by eight points before rallying to win the title. They dedicated the championship to head coach Stephanie Finke, who is battling breast cancer.

By participating in the Class 2 state tournament in Farmington this year, Reagan wrapped up an outstanding high school golf career with two state trips and three all-EMO awards. He qualified for state by finishing in a three-way tie for sixth in district play. He also picked up his third all-conference award and shot a career-best 75 at the Missouri Military Academy Tournament.

March was also a top performer for the Wildcats this season. He earned all-conference honors for the third year in a row, placed runner-up twice and shot a career-best 78 at the MMA tournament.

MCHS finished with a 26-7 record during the regular season, the best mark in Cody Hasekamp’s four-year tenure as coach. The Wildcats finished third in the EMO tournament, which was held at Elsberry.
