George Elbridge Cobb, 90, of Montgomery City died peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at the Boone Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.

George was born on January 22, 1934 in Bellflower. His parents were Emmett Wayne Cobb and Genevieve Hammett Cobb. His father died when George was 18. After his graduation from Bellflower High School, his mother moved the family to Columbia while George and his sister Carolyn attended the University of Missouri. George left MU to serve in the Army, serving the later part of his enlistment in Okinawa. Upon his return, he again attended MU, graduating in 1958.

In August of 1956, George married Faye Robinson. After his graduation, they moved to his family’s farm in Bellflower. He was employed by the USDA for 30 years, first in the Montgomery County ASCS office and later in Columbia.

In 1996, they moved to Montgomery City.

George was preceded in death by his wife Faye, his parents and sister Carolyn Cobb Stadler.

George and Faye always shared their home with pets. During the 13 years they were with us, George was seldom seen in his pickup without Collie, Bo and Bear and later Penny. Above his desk is a plaque inherited from his father. It reads “For when the one great scorer comes to write against your name, he writes not that you won or lost – but how you played the game.”

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on March 16 at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, with the Reverend Lynn Quist officiating the services. Interment will follow in the Bellflower Cemetery in Bellflower. The casketbearers include Alan Rock, Aaron Rock, Keith Rock, Roy Butts, Bernard Begeman and Steve Davis.
