Junior Bethany Slovensky placed second in the long jump in a personal-best and school-record jump of 16 feet, 10.75 inches, senior Logan Pursifull came in fifth in the shot put in 47-4.25 and sophomore Gage Marshall finished in a tie for eighth in the high jump in 5-10.75.

Slovensky earned her fifth all-state medal. She picked up all-state medals in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles in her sophomore year and the 100-meter hurdles and triple jump the year before.

Slovensky will have a chance to pick up two more all-state medals on Saturday as she competes in finals of the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. She finished first in her heat and second overall in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries in 16.06 seconds. She placed third in heat and fifth overall in the 300-meter hurdles preliminaries in 48.91 seconds.

Slovensky is scheduled to run the 100-meter hurdles finals at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Her 300-meter hurdles finals race is at 2:45 p.m.

The junior jumped 16-10.75 inches in her sixth and final attempt to take over first place with two jumpers remaining, but Breah Morris of Richland jumped a 17-1.25 to win the state championship.

Pursifull earned his first all-state medal. After starting off in 10th place, he threw a 47-4.25 in his second attempt to climb to fifth place, where he stayed for good. Pursifull won district and sectional championships in the shot put.

Marshall also received all-state notice for the first time. He finished in a tie with Osborn’s Braxton Gibson.
