Ann Rose won another queen contest on Monday.
This time, she came out on top in the Montgomery County Fair queen contest.
The Montgomery City resident and Montgomery County senior-to-be was crowned fair queen at the contest that was held at the Family Fun Center at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. The queen contest was moved from the Grandstands due to the hot conditions.
Sarabeth Trenner, Adrianna Craven and Matti Hager made up the fair queen court. Trenner was named first runner-up, followed by Craven and Hager.
The Little Mr. and Miss Contest was also held at the Family Fun Center on Monday. Elijah Haberstroh and Evelyn Cobb were the winners in that contest.
Elijah performed “This Is Your Land” and won a prize after placing first in the coloring contest that was held at Peoples Savings Bank on July 15. Evelyn, who competed in the contest for the second year in a row, performed “God Bless the U.S.A.”
There were 14 participants – 10 girls and four boys – in the Little Mr. and Miss Contest. Tinsley Speagle, Paisley Hamilton, Bennett Barnett, Claudia Cope, Addington Haller, Everleigh DeRoy, Jack Bolte, Gwenneth Uthlaut, Lyanna Kopp, Lydia Murray, Shelby Schreiner and Greysen Hasekamp.
Rose became the first Montgomery City resident to win the fair queen contest since Cora Johnson in 2023. Two years ago, she was crowned the Jonesburg Homecoming queen in her first queen contest.
Last year, Rose competed in the queen contest, but didn’t win. She won an award for top season pass seller after selling 129 season passes.
On Monday, Rose won the top season pass seller award with 217 season passes, plus awards for top interview and top evening gown. She received her crown from last year’s queen, Lila Uthlaut.
By being named queen, Rose will perform many duties during this week’s fair, such as ride at Tuesday’s parade and participate in Thursday’s junior livestock auction.
Rose made a speech at the contest that was titled, “A Small Town, A Big Memory,” chronicling her memories of going to the Montgomery County Fair.
Trenner, who lives in Rhineland and will be a senior at Hermann this fall, was named first runner-up for the second year in a row. She won an award for top speech or talent. She did a dancing performance on Rihanna’s song, “Dancing In The Dark.”
Hager, who will be a senior at Mexico High School this fall, earned the People’s Choice Award for the second straight year. She was named Miss Congeniality last year.
Craven, who will be a junior at Van-Far High School this fall, was selected as this year’s Miss Congeniality.
A print version of this story will be published in the July 29 edition of the Montgomery Standard.
