Montgomery County residents got an opportunity to ring in 2025 on Dec. 31 at the New Year’s Eve Prom at the Bellflower Community Center.
For more than six hours, the partygoers in attendance danced to music of all the decades and celebrated the prom king and queen. The first annual event opened its doors at 7 p.m. and ended past 1 a.m.
“Just about everyone was dressed up,” said Alex Clark, who was the prom’s coordinator. “We made it an option just for people who wanted to come hang out, but mostly everybody was dressed up.”
Donny Broz and Bonnie Begeman, both Bellflower residents, were named king and queen, respectively.
Tickets for the prom began selling in September. They were even available during a silent auction at a benefit event for county resident Kelly Flake in September.
“We had a goal to have about 50 people there,” Clark said. “We sold that many tickets, but a few people had some family things come up. They weren’t able to make it, but we sold the tickets we wanted to sell and we all had a good time. Everyone was able to make it.”
Clark said she came up with the idea of having a prom in Bellflower after holding a BBQ Cook-Off at the Bellflower Fire District building in June.
“I was kind of looking for things to do for fundraising,” Clark said. “It was one of the things that popped up on the website. So I kind of went for it.”
Clark said the funds of the prom will help pay for repairs and insurance of the Bellflower Community Building.
The second annual prom will be held on Jan. 3, 2026 and will have a Prohibition theme.
“We had a lot of people saying that they like to spend New Year’s with their kids,” Clark said.
