William “Bill” Richard Meyers, of Wellsville, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bill was born March 26, 1938 in Mound City, Ill., to William Wilson and Helen Doris (Craven) Meyers, the eldest of nine children.

As the eldest child, Bill had to stop attending school after completing the eighth grade to help support his family. He began working as a service station attendant alongside his father and continued until joining the Air Force in May of 1955. Bill served four years in the Air Force, being stationed in Korea and Rapid City, S.D. prior to his discharge. After his discharge in 1959, he held numerous roles through the years: city police officer in New Florence, part owner/operator of B&J Services in New Florence and working in maintenance at multiple employers until retiring from MoDOT in 2015.

Bill enjoyed woodworking, welding, camping, reading his newspapers, gardening, landscaping and mowing and spending time with his family. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him.

On July 15, 1995, he married Susan Elaine Bane in Montgomery City, who survives. Bill is also survived by four children, Kevin (Janet) Meyers of Flint Hill (St. Charles County), Joshua Meyers of Wellsville and Melody (Crash) Bartlett and Tonya Meyers, both of New Florence; three stepdaughters, Missy (Chuck) Skouby of Troy, Theresa (Shawn) Thurmon of Moscow Mills and Heidi Rives of Jonesburg; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four siblings, Carl (Kay) Meyers of Maryville, Tenn., and Phyllis Oliver, Brenda (Terry) Baugh, and Carolyn (Kenny) Hasty, all of Montgomery City; two brothers-in-law, Herb (Carolyn) Throckmorton of Pentress, W.V. and Butch Throckmorton of Blacksville, W.V.; and one sister-in-law, Mary Bane from Westover, W.V.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Jackie, Willie, and Harold Joe Meyers; one sister, Shirley Holmes; three brothers-in-law, Fred Holmes, Gary Oliver and Mark Bane; and two sisters-in-law, Carol Sue Meyers and Sandra Throckmorton.

At his request, he will be cremated and there will be no services at this time.
