Brothers take over ownership of Kaminski’s Furniture

Posted

For 65 years, Kaminski’s Furniture in Jonesburg has been a popular spot for residents in Montgomery County and other areas in Missouri to purchase discounted appliances, furniture and mattresses.

Now, the store will look to continue its excellence under a new name – Field Furniture and Flooring.

Brothers Roy and Tim Field purchased the longtime establishment from John McCann on Nov. 27. They spent their first day as owners on Nov. 29.

“This took a year to close this deal,” Roy said. “We closed it the day before Thanksgiving. We talked with John last October and here we are finally in business and running. It takes a while to buy a business that’s currently operating because you don’t know the numbers since they change daily.”

So far, the Field brothers have been successful in their first month as owners. They plan to hold a grand opening during the spring.

“The store hasn’t skipped a beat,” Roy said. “In our first month of sales, we topped what he (McCann) did the month before. We’re very service oriented. The customers come first and they pick on it right away.”

Tim said he is excited that he will be moving to Jonesburg.

“I’m building a house off of Main Street, so I’ll be 10 minutes from my store,” Tim said. “We’re all in. We’re not going anywhere.”

Roy, who is 69, also owns All Surface Flooring in Ballwin and has worked in the flooring business for 45 years. Tim, who is 60, worked as a representative and sold floor covering for Mohawk Flooring before he decided to team up with his older brother to buy Kaminski’s, which began its business in 1960.

“We’re equal partners looking to make a dent in Warren and Montgomery counties,” Roy said. “This is a family store that will continue being a family store.”

Roy said he was on his way home from looking at some condominiums at the Lake of the Ozarks when the Kaminski’s location off I-70 caught his attention.

'“This was a destination,” Roy said. “I wanted to have a business that’s out west and could be a destination. This place was.”

Roy said the store will continue to sell furniture as well as flooring. His granddaughter, Ella, who is a student at Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss., created the new logo of the store.

“We’re doing a new idea here, being new owners out in Jonesburg with a furniture store that used to be a flooring store,” he said. “He (McCann) kind of let the flooring part slide because it’s a lot of work, but we’re going to pick it back up and do a lot more flooring. Back in the day, it was a flooring destination. Not anymore. We’re going to change that.”

Roy said he has two sons who work at his other store, All Surface Flooring, in Ballwin. He has owned it since the early 1980s.

“Our store out there is an elite store,” Roy said. “We have a 5.0 rating in reviews and we have like 540 five-star reviews, so we do everything right. We want happy customers. That’s how we’re going to do it here.”

The Field brothers, who are originally from Ferguson, own a store that has 12 employees.

“They’re really happy that we took over this store,” Roy said. “Their legacy will carry on, just under a different name.”
