Car show to be held in High Hill

The city of High Hill and Play Day Farm are teaming up to put together an event on Oct. 21 to help with the improvements of the High Hill Community Building.

The First Annual Car Truck Tractor Cycle Show and Shine will be held during the second weekend of Play Day Farm, which is located off I-70 in High Hill. Registration will start at 9 a.m., judging will begin at 1 p.m. and awards will be given out at 2 p.m.

“It kind of evolved,” High Hill Mayor Tom Stine said. “I help out at Play Day Farm, too. So I was looking for something that would help out Play Day Farm to bring people in. I was looking for people who wanted to do something there. I was having trouble getting people interested. I was thinking a car show might be something that would attract some different people. It just evolved into a fundraiser for the city. So hopefully we can raise some funds for our park department and make some improvements.”

The entry fee is $15. Proceeds will go towards the High Hill Parks and Recreation to renovate the community building.

There are three different classes in the Car Truck Tractor Cycle Show and Shine – original, restored and modified. Stine said there were many people who were interested in participating in the event.

“There have been a lot of people who talked to us about bringing cars,” Stine said. “We had quite a bit of interest in sponsorship. We’re moving along with it.”

Stine said he hopes the event will raise enough money that will help pay for improvements of the community building.

“Hopefully, if things go well, we could get a grant or something else that we could increase our money,” Stine said. “There are some historic grants. They’re part of our park department, so there are some park grants. We’re hoping that we can multiply whatever money we can make.”

The community building was operated as a school until 1954. It is now used as a rental building for parties, wedding receptions and reunions. The community building is located next to High Hill Park.

“It needs a little love,” Stine said. “It has gotten to the point where it needs some work. It belongs to the city, but the city doesn’t have funds to do the rehab work that it needs, so we could raise some money.”
