Five Montgomery County seniors continued their high school track and field careers for at least another week.

Jacer Brower, Conner Finke, Weston Marshall, El Reagan and Malia Rodgers will represent the Wildcats’ senior class at the Class 3, Sectional 2 meet on May 11 at Paris High School after turning in top four finishes in their respective events at the District 3 meet on May 4 at Montgomery County High School.

The five seniors will be joined by junior Tyler Erwin and freshmen Kaylee Daume, Austyn Robinson and Samantha Turner at the sectional meet, giving MCHS a total of nine sectional qualifiers. Last year, the Wildcats had 11 athletes advancing to sectionals.

The top four finishers in each event advance to sectionals in Paris, a town located in Monroe County. The top four finishers at sectionals qualify for the Class 3 state meet, which is scheduled for May 17-18 at Jefferson City.

Reagan qualified for sectionals for the fourth year in a row after winning district titles in the pole vault and high jump, making it the first time she placed first in two events at districts. She finished with a 10-9.5 in the pole vault, breaking her own school record of 10-8.75 she set in last year’s sectionals at Mexico. It’s also her first district title in the pole vault.

Reagan finished with a personal-best jump of 4-11.75 in the high jump to pick up her second win in that event. She won the high jump at an open meet at MCHS in her sophomore year.

Rodgers and Brower will also make their fourth sectional appearances. Rodgers advanced to Paris after placing fourth in the 1,600 (5:43.13) and 3,200 (12:17.41) and Brower finished second in the 400 at 50.94 seconds, third in the long jump in 20-9.5 and fourth in the 200 in 22.75 seconds.

Marshall will compete in sectionals for the second time after winning the javelin in 178 feet, 3 inches, breaking his own school record of 176-2.25 he set at the Ron Whittaker Invitational in Mexico on April 17. He won the javelin district championship for the second year in a row.

Finke will make his sectional debut after finishing second in the discus in 123-11 and third in the shot put in 43-2.5.

Three other MCHS seniors wrapped up their high school track careers at districts. Morgan Koch placed sixth in the javelin and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles and helped the 1,600-meter relay team finish fifth in the girls division. In the boys division, James Pollard finished seventh in the discus and eighth in the shot put and Landon Massey came in 10th in the pole vault.

Erwin will go to sectionals for the third time after placing first in the high jump and triple jump and second in the long jump and the 100. He jumped a 6-3.25 in the high jump, a 21-11.75 in the long jump and a 44.5.5 in the triple jump and ran 11.38 seconds in the 100. Erwin now has three district championships in his high school track career.

Turner qualified for sectionals in the shot put after winning the event with a 32-0.25 at districts. The week before, she won the shot put at the Eastern Missouri Conference meet, which was also held at MCHS.
Daume and Robinson had third-place finishes in the shot put and 400, respectively, to earn sectional berths. Daume threw a 30-10 and Robinson ran a 1:07.28.

The MCHS girls, who won the EMO championship on April 25, finished third in the team standings with 90 points. Owensville won the district title with 131.5 points and Winfield was second with 93.5.

The Wildcats finished fourth with 93 points in the boys division. John Burroughs (116), St. Francis Borgia (108) and Owensville (97) rounded out the top three.
