County opens candidate filing for April election

Candidate filing has started for Montgomery County residents who are interested in running for available seats for the 2026 general municipal election on April 7.

Filing opened on Dec. 9 and will stay open until Dec. 31. There are 12 local seats available for filing.

County opens candidate filing for April election

Candidate filing has started for Montgomery County residents who are interested in running for available seats for the 2026 general municipal election on April 7.

Filing opened on Dec. 9 and will stay open until Dec. 31. There are 12 local seats available for filing.

The Montgomery County R-II School District has three 3-year terms available for the election. Filing for the school board can be made at the Montgomery County Middle School Central Office during regular business hours excluding holidays. The hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Dec. 10-12 and 16-18, 8 a.m.-noon on Dec. 19 and 3 p.m.-5 p.m. on Dec. 30.

The Wellsville-Middletown R-I School District also has three 3-year terms available. Residents of the district need to file at the district’s central office from 8 p.m.-4 p.m. when school is in session and on Dec. 30 from 4 p.m.-5 p.m.

The City of Montgomery has openings for mayor, city collector and Ward I and Ward II alderman. Interested candidates can file between 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The City of New Florence has two seats available for the election – Ward I and Ward II alderman. Filing can be made at New Florence City Hall between 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. except on weekends and Dec. 24 and 25, when City Hall will be closed.

The City of High Hill also has Ward I and Ward II Alderman seats available. Filing can be made at the High Hill City Hall from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The City of Jonesburg has three seats available – Ward I alderman for a two-year term, Ward II alderman for a two-year term and mayor for a two-year term. Filing is open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday at Jonesburg City Hall.

The City of Middletown has two seats available for alderman-at-large. Filing hours are from 8 a.m.-noon Tuesday through Thursday at Middletown City Hall.

There are seats available for the Montgomery, Bellflower and Middletown fire departments. 

The Montgomery Volunteer Fire Protection District is seeking two directors for a six-year term and one director elected for a two-year term to fill a vacancy created by a resignation. Filing should be made by appointment with Fire Chief Jessica Davis at 573-564-3862 or montgomeryfirepd@gmail.com.

The Middletown Community Fire Protection District is seeking a board member for a six-year term. Filing can be made at the office and interested candidates must live in the Middletown area.

The Bellflower Volunteer Fire Protection District has two six-year term director seats available. Filing can be made at the Montgomery County Clerk’s office at the Montgomery County Courthouse between 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Montgomery County Health Department has three board positions available, all of them with four-year terms each. Filing can be made at the MCHD office from 8:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Public Water Supply District has seats available for Sub-District 3 and Sub-District 4 board members. Both serve three-year terms. Filing can be made at the office of the District Clerk, 22673 NW Service Road in Warrenton.
