As the year 2023 comes to a close, registration has ended for Montgomery County residents who plans to run in local city government, school board and emergency district leadership elections in the year 2024.

The deadline was Dec. 26 to file for alderman in the cities of Bellflower, High Hill, Jonesburg, Middletown and Montgomery City and for board member positions at the Montgomery County Ambulance District and Montgomery County R-II School District. The opening date of filing was Dec. 5.

Local municipal elections will take place on April 2, 2024.

Kasey Pottebaum (incumbent), Mike Deering, Samantha Czerniewski, David Reagan and Dan Dothage filed for two three-year board positions in the R-II School District. Dothage ran for board member in the April 2023 election, but came up one place short of being elected as he placed fourth.

Montgomery City had four candidates file for election. All of them are incumbents. They are Mike Spirz (mayor), Jill Dunlap (city collector), Tom Benney (Ward I alderman) and Julie Worsham (Ward 2 alderman).

Steve Devlin (incumbent Ward I alderman) and J. Harding (new candidate for Ward II alderman) filed for the city of High Hill.

Georgia Scarbrough and Tristan Speagle are running for alderman at Middletown.

Dale Hawkins is running for board member for the Montgomery County Ambulance District.

Three candidates signed up for the election in the city of Bellflower, but city officials said they will not release the names until they have been approved by Montgomery County.
