County resident Spring Lynch starts new exercise program

Posted

For many years, Spring Lynch was a leader of the Biggest Loser exercise program at Middletown Baptist Church that ended its 20-year run in the spring of 2023.

Now, the Middletown resident has started a new online exercise program called Fit and Faithful Momma that will help women get in shape physically and spiritually for the New Year.

Registration started on Jan. 1 for the 12-week program that will end on March 25. Lynch said about 50 people signed up.

“It’s a small group, but I don’t mind that because I want to keep it on a personal basis,” Lynch said. “I don’t want it to be about money and trying to get rich off of it. I felt like I had a calling and this is part of my calling.”

Lynch joined the Biggest Loser program in 2004. After becoming the program’s first champion, she became more committed to fitness as she lost 100 pounds in a span of a year. Lynch took over the program’s chairperson duties in 2010, replacing then-MBC pastors Greg and Lisa Williams. She is also a certified personal trainer and a certified group fitness trainer and took life coaching classes at the University of Kansas.

Lynch came up with the idea of having a virtual exercise program nearly four years ago, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country.

“I did the Biggest Loser online that year because we couldn’t meet at the church,” Lynch said. “I had such a good group of people. We did it all online. I did all of the workouts online. I kept track of all of their weights and everything. At that point, I knew then that I wanted to do something more virtual. This year, it seems that it was the year that I needed to do it with people having to travel so far to Middletown.”

The Fit and Faithful Momma program includes daily workouts and videos on nutrition. Every workout ends with devotion and a prayer.

“Each day, there is a new video posted for them to do that concentrates on different muscle groups,” Lynch said. “They are 30-minute videos. I’m not a dietician, but I also do some macro coaching, which is proteins, carbohydrates and fat.”

Lynch said her program’s mission is to help women stay healthy every day.

“The biggest thing that I’m going to take from the program is that I want this to be a lifestyle change,” Lynch said. “I feel like at the Biggest Loser, people just lose weight primarily for the money. I would see them about six months later and they would gain all of their weight back. In my group, I want it to be more of a lifestyle change so that there is a transformation for life instead of just three months.”

Over $1,000 in cash and prizes will be rewarded for participants in the program.

The cost to sign up for the program is $24.99 a month or $130 for six months. Participants can register at the Fit and Faithful Facebook page. For more information, call 573-253-3737 or send an email at fitfaithtful@gmail.com.
