Dennis Max Richardson, 72, of Montgomery City, passed away Sunday, September 3 in Montgomery City.

Funeral services will be at noon on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the First United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City. Visitation is scheduled at 10 a.m. until the time of service. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Paris (Monroe County).

Dennis was born in Kirksville on December 15, 1950. He was the son of Phyllis L. and Millard Max Richardson. On December 23, 1973, he was married to Linda Gerster in Paris. Dennis attended elementary and high school in Kirksville. He received his Bachelor’s degree in music education in 1973 and his Master’s degree in music education in 1980 from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University). He taught middle school and high school vocal music at the Montgomery County R-II School District for 25 years. He was a member of the chancel choir at the First United Methodist Presbyterian Church, where he also played the piano for Sunday services. He also served as musician for St. John’s United Church of Christ in High Hill and Jonesburg Christian Church.

Dennis and Linda took five wonderful trips to Europe with the Mark Twain Chorale International. Dennis sang with the group and played the piano for the group. He played and sang for numerous weddings and funerals over the years. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Gerster) Richardson of the home; two sisters, Susan (Kenny) Harbur of Gothenburg, Neb., and Shari (Don) Eggley of Neosho; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Phil and Nancy Engel, and Larry and Debbi Geib.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Presbyterian Church or St. John’s United Church of Christ in High Hill.
