Dexter G. Anderson, 67, of Seattle, Wash., formerly of Montgomery City, passed away quietly at his home on Sept. 6, 2023.

Dexter was born on March 8, 1956, in Montgomery City, the son of Mr. Edward R. Anderson, Sr. and Mrs. Romania Otey Anderson. Dexter attended St John’s White Chapel Baptist Church in Montgomery City and was baptized there at an early age. He served as a member of the Junior Usher Board and in the Youth Choir during his time at the church.

He attended school in Montgomery City and Male High School in Louisville, Ky. Dexter attended Kentucky State University and received a Bachelor’s degree in computer science.

An Army veteran, Dexter served as an 11C Indirect Fire Infantryman. His awards and decorations include the Expert Infantry Badge, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (2), Army Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal (2), Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Rifle and Grenade Marksmanship Badges, respectively.

Dexter was an avid sports fan and an outstanding high school athlete. He would often mentor young athletes, offering them insight and advice in their respective sports. He was passionate about supporting the local high school, college and professional teams.

Dexter enjoyed cooking as well as baking, serving up his culinary delights or sharing pictures of his tasty cuisine online for all to see. There was no dish that he wouldn’t attempt to make. A perfectionist, Dexter would prepare the same dish several times until it was just right, earning his seal of approval.

A free spirit, Dexter relished the opportunity to travel and live in various states across the country. While stationed in what was then West Germany, Dexter was able to visit many countries throughout the European continent.

Dexter was always quick with a smile and even quicker with a good joke, amusing story or anecdote. Family and friends often remarked about how his comedic efforts would have them in stitches. He always left them feeling better after their conversations.
