Candidate filing ended on Dec. 31 for Montgomery County residents who were interested in running for available seats for the 2026 general municipal election on April 7.
The Wellsville-Middletown R-I School District, communities of New Florence, High Hill and Jonesburg, fire districts from Montgomery and Bellflower, the Montgomery County Health Department, the Public Water Supply District, the Wellsville Special Road District, the Montgomery County Ambulance District, the Montgomery Volunteer Fire District were among the local seats that had candidates filing for the election. Filing began on Dec. 9.
Chad Scholfield, Melissa Beabout, Katherine Taylor and Clinetta Weinrich filed to run for school board at W-M. The school district has three 3-year terms available. Weinrich, whose term will expire in April, filed for re-election as school board member. Two board members, Stacey Sewell and Paula Adams, have terms expire in April.
Charles Fischer and Dennis “Steve” Devlin are running uncontested for Ward 2 and Ward 1 alderman at High Hill.
Bob Sellenriek (mayor), Brian Williams (Ward I alderman) and Bobbie Russell (Ward II alderman) are running uncontested in their respective seats at Jonesburg. All three have filed for re-election.
Jason Carter, Michelle Fortmann and Louis Johnson are running for two seats for alderman at New Florence. Carter and Fortmann filed for re-election.
Kim Clements, Mary Ellen Shanks, Gary Eatherton and Laura Burnham are running for three available board positions, all of them with four-year terms each. Clements, Shanks and Eatherton filed for re-election.
Incumbent Karl Finke filed for re-election to sub-district 4 for the Public Water Supply District.
Neal Davis and Steven Williams are the candidates for director of the Montgomery County Ambulance District. Brent Sheets and Richard DeTienne are running for director of the Wellsville Special Road District.
Grace River, Johnnie Powell and Leslie West are candidates for director of the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Protection District. Alford Higby and Raymond Miller are running for director of the Bellflower Fire Protection District.
The Montgomery County R-II School District has three candidates running for school board -- president Maria Stille, secretary Karl Queathem and vice-president Karl Finke.
In Montgomery City, Mike Spirz (mayor), Jill Dunlap (city collector) and Tom Benney (Ward I Alderman) will run uncontested in their respective seats. David Turner and Shannon Brock are the candidates for Ward II Alderman.
Tristan Speagle and Cody Fisher were the only candidates who filed for the election for city of Middletown, which has two seats available for alderman at-large.
