After a forfeit win in the Class 2, District 2 quarterfinals, the Montgomery County Wildcats will take on a new opponent in the semifinal round on Friday.

MCHS will play the Jefferson Blue Jays on Nov. 6 at Jefferson High School, located south of Festus. The contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. It will be the first matchup between the Wildcats and Blue Jays.

The Wildcats were scheduled to host a quarterfinal game against the Confluence Prep Charter Academy on Oct. 30 at Jim Blacklock Field, but that contest was canceled due to a forfeit by the visitors. MCHS was notified that Confluence Prep was unable to play the day before.

MCHS is the No. 3 seed in the six-team district tournament. The Wildcats will take a 6-4 record into their semifinal game against Jefferson and are guaranteed to finish with their second straight winning season. A win will advance them to the district finals on Nov. 13 against either top-seeded Valle Catholic or fifth-seeded Hermann.

Hermann cruised to a 34-8 win over fourth-seeded Duchesne in a quarterfinal game on Oct. 30 at Duchesne High School.

The Wildcats are the defending district champions. Last year, they beat Bowling Green in the Class 2, District 2 finals at Jim Blacklock Field for their first district crown since 2005. MCHS has won 12 district titles in program history.

This year, MCHS has bounced back from a 1-2 start to clinch a winning record. The Wildcats also had wins over Hermann, South Callaway, Van-Far, Mark Twain and Wright City.

The high school football careers of seniors Lafe McCurdy, Dallas Hans, Tyler Rodgers, Isaac Hinkel, Troy Quesenberry, Owen See and Jack Barker will continue for at least another game.

Jefferson, the No. 2 seed, will take a 6-3 record with its contest with the Wildcats. The Blue Jays earned a quarterfinal-round bye.

After an 0-2 start, Jefferson is guaranteed to finish with its 10th winning season in program history. The program began in 2011, just two years after the high school was built. It won its only district title in 2020.

The Blue Jays had wins over Herculaneum, Cuba, Bayless, Perryville, Grandview and St. Vincent. They were 4-6 last year. After a forfeit win in the Class 2, District 2 quarterfinals, the Montgomery County Wildcats will take on a new opponent in the semifinal round on Friday.
