John William Brandenburg, 74, of Montgomery City, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at his home surrounded by family.

John William Brandenburg was born on October 23, 1947 in Mexico (Audrain County) to Willard Lee Brandenburg and Mildred M. Gruber Brandenburg. He graduated from Montgomery County R-II High School in 1965. 

Mr. Brandenburg was an owner operator. He loved driving out west, would go to the Southwest in the winter and enjoyed going to Pennsylvania. He enjoyed having a good breakfast; reading the National Geographic Magazine; supporting the Indians (always had a dream catcher in his truck); collecting coins; watching baseball, western movies, TV shows such as “Gunsmoke” and mystery shows; swimming; and playing with cats. He had a great sense of humor and loved being around all his family and friends.

Mr. Brandenburg is survived by his four children: Heather Juric of Boston, Mass.; Andrew Brandenburg of Topeka, Kan.; Lindsay Brandenburg of Montgomery City; and Tanner Brandenburg of Montgomery City; several grandchildren; mother, Mildred Gruber Brandenburg of Montgomery City; brothers: Paul Brandenburg and wife, Judy, of Montgomery City; and Bob Brandenburg and wife, Julie, of Montgomery City; sister, Debbie Brandenburg and husband, Ken Boles of Columbia; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Brandenburg was preceded in death by his father, Willard Lee Brandenburg.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on July 26 at the Montgomery City Cemetery in Montgomery City. The Reverend Jason Mirikitani will officiate.

Schlanker Funeral Home of Montgomery City was in charge of the arrangements.
