Jonesburg Homecoming returns for 83rd year

The Jonesburg Homecoming will return its 83rd year on June 12-14.

This year’s three-day event will have plenty of activities except the queen and princess contest. Last year, Montgomery City resident Ann Rose and Warrenton resident Meredith O’Brien were named queen and princess, respectively. This year, no one signed up for the contest.

“It’s really hard to get people to participate in that for some reason,” chairman Jerry Schwartz said. “They offer pretty good scholarships for it.”

Schwartz said the organizers are working on getting new buildings at Lions Park, which will host the homecoming event.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. on June 12 with the fish and food stand opening for patrons at Lions Park and will end at 11:30 p.m. on June 14 with the 50/50 and $100 attendance prize drawings.

The Jonesburg Homecoming, which is sponsored by the Jonesburg Lions Club, started in 1941. This will be the fourth year in a row the event will run Thursday through Saturday. Organizers eliminated Sunday in the fair schedule in 2022 so fathers around the community can celebrate Father’s Day, which is scheduled for June 15.

The parade will start at 6:30 p.m. on June 12. Participants must register at Jonesburg Elementary School at 5 p.m.

The Jonesburg Homecoming will have the pedal tractor pull, egg toss and chain saw contest on June 13. Music will be played throughout the event by Sound-n-Effect (June 12), Shoot for the Stars (June 13), Nita Hadden (June 14), Alex Day (June 14) and Mickey Scott (June 14).

The baby show kicks off the third and final day of the event at 11 a.m. There are five divisions each in the boys and girls groups. The winner of each division advances to the Grand Champion contest.

There will be a carnival on all three days. It is provided by Tinsley Amusements of High Hill.

A car/motorcycle show will be held from noon-3 p.m. on June 14. The cornhole tournament is scheduled at 1 p.m., also on June 14.
