Jonesburg resident Marie Cowie placed third in the American Heroes category of the Eighth Annual Salt River Quilt Show, which took place at the Mark Twain Memorial Shrine in Florida (Monroe County).
The event was sponsored by the Monroe County Historical Society and the theme was Spirit of America, in honor of the nation’s 250th birthday next year. The show invited quilters from across the state to enter quilts showing their appreciation for America.
Some 30 quilters from 10 Missouri counties and three Illinois counties entered more than 70 quilts in the contest.
Cowie competed in a category that celebrated military personnel and first responders and historic American heroes. Ruth Miller of Vandalia was awarded first place and Anne Cary of Hannibal was awarded second.
