Lions Club prepare for second annual Paddle Auction

The Montgomery City Lions Club is bringing back its Paddle Auction on Jan. 20 at the Lions Club building.

The second annual event will start at 6 p.m. Paddles are sold at $10 each and there will be all-in paddles available. There will also be a 50/50 drawing at the event.

Lions Club members Kristie Eldringhoff and Tammy Teeter are in charge of the event, which will also have a live auction and deck of cards gun raffle.

The money raised will help pay for the renovation costs at the Lions Club building, which is located at 1120 Farnen in Montgomery City. Funds will also be used for a scholarship.

In late 2022, the organization started making improvements on its building such as painting the walls, fixing the ceiling, putting in new lighting and working on the bathrooms.

New handicapped bathrooms were installed in the building. Teeter said there are more projects that need to be done at the building.

“We haven’t done anything for a long time, so it’s kind of like playing catch up,” Teeter said. “We have a little bit of work to do to our trailer that we serve barbecue out of. We have several little projects.

Last year’s auction was successful as it raised about $7,000. More than 60 people were in attendance.

“Last year, our biggest thing was trying to get money to do the bathrooms and we got that done,” Teeter said.

The Lions Club hopes to have an increase of items in this year’s auction. There were 86 items in the 2023 auction that included a wine and chocolate basket, a barbecue set, gift cards, tumbler cups and tool bags.

“We’re not sure what kind of auction items that we’re going to have yet, but we’re going to come up with some good auction items,” Teeter said.

Anyone who is interested in donating an item to the auction can contact Eldringhoff at 573-220-9616 or Teeter at 314-630-0243.
